Eating Disorder Therapy in Los Angeles

Maybe food has always felt complicated. Many of my clients tell me they can’t remember a time when they weren’t thinking about their body, worrying about what they ate, trying the next diet, or chasing a version of themselves that they’d finally feel satisfied with. Living in Los Angeles adds extra pressure - with constant pressure to look a certain way, be a certain way, and measure up in a culture that often equates worth with appearance.

Most people are surprised to learn that less than 6% of individuals with eating disorders are clinically underweight. Eating disorders are mental health conditions, not weight conditions, and they can affect people in any body size. Because of harmful stereotypes, many people struggle in silence, feeling that they are “not sick enough” to deserve help, which can delay support and care.

In reality, medical risk, emotional distress, and disruption to daily life can occur at any weight. You don’t have to look a certain way to be struggling, and you do not have to reach a crisis point to deserve care.

Support for every eating disorder

Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

Not driven by body image, ARFID may involve sensory sensitivities, fear of choking or vomiting, or low interest in food. It can affect nutrition, food variety, and daily life, often overlapping with anxiety or sensory differences.

Anorexia Nervosa

(AN)

Rooted in fear, control, and distress around food, weight, and body image. It often involves food restriction, rigid eating rules, and anxiety about weight gain.

Bulimia Nervosa

(BN)

Bulimia involves a cycle of binge eating followed by behaviors meant to “undo” the eating, such as purging, over-exercising, or restricting. Many people feel trapped in shame, secrecy, and loss of control around food.

Orthorexia

Orthorexia is often disguised as “healthy eating.” It is an obsessive fixation on eating “clean,” “pure,” or “healthy.” What may begin as wellness-focused can become rigid, stressful, and all-consuming, often interfering with joy, flexibility, and social life.

Binge Eating Disorder (BED)

Characterized by recurring episodes of eating large amounts of food while feeling out of control, often followed by guilt, shame, or emotional distress. Unlike bulimia, there are no regular compensatory behaviors.

Other Specified Eating Disorders (OFSED)

OFSED includes eating disorders that don’t fit perfectly into a single diagnostic label but are still very real and deserving of care. You may still struggle with food, body image, rigidity, or emotional distress even if your symptoms don’t match a textbook definition.

My Approach

Core Values

I approach eating disorder therapy from a compassionate, weight-inclusive lens rooted in Health at Every Size (HAES) and Intuitive Eating principles. This lens views all people as inherently worthy of care and respect, regardless of body size, and focuses on creating space for greater food freedom, body trust, and flexibility around eating.

Insight Development & Behavioral Change

I integrate behavioral and exposure-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), to support practical skill-building and behavior change. Alongside this, I incorporate deeper, insight-oriented therapy grounded in psychodynamic and attachment-based work to help you understand the underlying patterns, emotions, and relational experiences that shape your relationship with food, your body, and yourself. This blend allows us to work both on meaningful, lasting change and deeper self-understanding.

Collaborative Care

Eating disorders require a multifaceted approach and often involve collaborative care between therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, and dietitians. When appropriate, I work closely with your treatment team to support you holistically - medically, nutritionally, and emotionally.

Recovery is possible.

I provide compassionate, evidence-based eating disorder therapy in Los Angeles and virtually throughout California for anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, orthorexia, and OSFED. If you’re ready to begin your recovery journey, reach out today to schedule a consultation.
